Mother Baby / Post Partum RN — Overland Park, KS
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week

This Mother Baby unit cares for postpartum women and newborns, providing comprehensive nursing support across the full perinatal continuum. Clinical responsibilities include postpartum recovery, LDRP care, well baby nursery, attending births for newborn assessment, and circumcision assistance.
Clinical Scope & Patient Population
- Postpartum mothers and newborns across varying acuity levels
- Risk assessment and monitoring for sepsis, VTE/DVT, suicide, malignant hyperthermia, and pressure injury
- Pain management, discharge education, and individualized patient care prioritization
- Application of AIDET and BSSR communication frameworks
Schedule & Float Requirements
- Varied schedule; typically includes two harder-to-staff shifts (Monday/Friday)
- One full weekend every third week, plus one additional weekend requirement
- No on-call obligations
- Float within women's services; cross-training to pediatrics and/or NICU may expand float options
Unit Staffing
- RN-driven team; no unit secretary; PCTs utilized only during short staffing situations
Required Certifications
- BLS
- NRP
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
- Prior experience in postpartum, LDRP, or well baby nursery settings
Dress Code
- Black scrub pants with a Caribbean blue scrub top, vest, or jacket
