Progressive Care / Intermediate ICU — Night Shift | Charlotte, NC
20-Week Contract | Nights 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3x12)
This fast-paced Intermediate ICU unit provides 24/7 monitoring and intervention for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac, medical-surgical, renal, pulmonary, and trauma-related conditions. Primary focus is on heart failure management and post-procedural cardiac care.
Clinical Scope
Nurses on this unit care for patients including:
- Acutely decompensated and new-onset heart failure
- Pre- and post-procedural patients following interventions such as PTCA, stenting, PFO closure, pacemaker implantation, EP studies, ablations, TAVR, and Mitral Clip procedures
- Acute coronary syndrome and active chest pain management
- Patients on insulin drips, vasoactive IV medications, and high-flow respiratory support (BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula)
- Cardioversions performed on the unit with cardiologist and anesthesia present
- Arterial/venous sheath management and pericardial drains/chest tubes
Schedule & Float
- 3x12-hour nights; every other weekend required
- Some floating to a Cardiac Telemetry unit; Med-Surg float ratios may reach 1:6
- 36-hour unit orientation
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Telemetry/PCU/ICU experience
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Competency: IV starts, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, peripheral line care, non-invasive airway management, post-cardiac cath and vascular surgical care
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- NC or Compact license required (pending accepted at submission)
Preferred
- Charge Nurse experience
- Wound care / wound vac experience
- NIHSSS certification
Scrubs: Any combination of navy and white
Scheduling: Self-scheduling based on unit needs
Weekends: Every other weekend
RTO: Up to 7 days pre-approved; no RTO during the first week; holidays excluded from pre-approved RTO
