Medical-Surgical Nurse – Birmingham, AL

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Nurse for a 14-week travel assignment. You'll work the night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), three 12-hour shifts per week, with every other weekend and some holiday rotation required.

Requirements

• Active RN license in Alabama (or compact license)
• Minimum 1+ years of Med-Surg nursing experience
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• CMSRN certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years' experience in your specialty and prior travel nursing experience

What You'll Do

Provide direct care to adult patients across a diverse range of medical and surgical diagnoses and acuity levels. Your responsibilities include:

• Assess, monitor, and respond to patient condition changes
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound management and pain control
• Administer medications and treatments per provider orders
• Care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care coordination and discharge planning
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate EMR documentation
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift
• Ensure adherence to infection control and fall prevention protocols

• Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (nights)
• Schedule: 3×12 hours per week with every other weekend and select holiday rotation
