Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit
About the Role
The facility is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will provide nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than a standard medical-surgical unit but below ICU-level acuity. This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a dynamic environment managing patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Assess and manage moderate-acuity patients; collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team on plan of care
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment plan, and recovery
- Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per acuity and staffing guidelines
- Ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols are followed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Minimum 1+ year of PCU or step-down nursing experience
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- ADN or BSN
Preferred
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
- BSN degree
Shift & Contract Details
- Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedule: Every other weekend required
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 11, 2026
