Registered Nurse – Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit

Position Overview

Night shift, 3x12-hour (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) in a cardiac intermediate care unit serving adult and geriatric patients. This is a 20-week contract role.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience with prior travel assignment(s)
  • Current RN license (Georgia or Compact)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Demonstrated competency managing cardiac drips and vasoactive medications (no titration)
  • Strong arrhythmia interpretation and hemodynamic monitoring skills

Clinical Focus

You'll manage patients across cardiac and medical-surgical overflow, including:

  • Arrhythmia management and cardioversion
  • Cardiac CHF, chest pain, post-cardiac catheterization care with TR band management
  • Renal, pulmonary (COPD, pulmonary edema), and PE/DVT patients
  • DKA, surgical patients (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
  • Occasional orthopedic or stroke overflow (transferred promptly to appropriate units)

Experience with these medications is essential:

Cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin), diuretics (Bumex, Lasix), anticoagulants (Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin), and insulin drips.

Scheduling & Expectations

  • Patient ratio: 1:5–6
  • Typically every other weekend (permanent staff scheduled first)
  • Call rare; 2-hour response time
  • Float to like units as needed
  • Navy blue scrubs
  • Maximum 7 days RTO per contract; all time off finalized at submission
  • Expected to work major holidays falling within assignment (up to 2)
