Emergency Department – Night Shift Float Role
Position Overview
Work 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) in a busy emergency department across multiple facilities within a 60-mile zone. This is a high-acuity float role with no home base facility.
Clinical Scope
You'll manage a diverse patient population including trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis, abdominal pain, and medical emergencies. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:4–5 depending on acuity. The department handles 40–168 patients per day across locations. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; you'll be expected to read and interpret your own telemetry strips and perform point-of-care lab testing.
Schedule & Floating
- 12-hour nights with every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday requirements (6–9 shifts per 6-week cycle)
- Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance
- You may be assigned to a single facility for the week or notified via just-in-time call 1–2 hours before shift start
- You must float across all assigned facilities within the zone. Housing must support this 60-mile radius commitment.
Requirements
- 2 years of ED experience (minimum)
- Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications
- Valid driver's license
- Attendance at mandatory orientation week (you must be in state)
- Maximum 3 missed shifts per 13-week contract
- 2-week notice required to avoid back-out penalty
