Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse

Location: Louisville, KY

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Every other weekend required

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

The facility's Progressive Care Unit provides nursing care for patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but not ICU-level care. You'll manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) and play a key role in caring for post-ICU transitions and patients at risk of clinical deterioration.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond promptly to changes in condition
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess and manage patients transitioning from ICU or requiring step-down care
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team on plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment, and recovery
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down unit experience
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BSN)
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
• NIHSS certification
