Medical-Surgical Telemetry Float RN – Garden City, KS Region
13-Week Contract | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
This is a zone float position covering multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Garden City, KS. Travelers must secure housing that allows them to feasibly float throughout the entire zone — the float requirement applies regardless of where you live.
About the Role
You'll work across a float pool that spans General Med-Surg/Tele and specialty units including Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, and ED Observation. Patients are primarily adults and geriatrics presenting with cardiac and neuro conditions, post-surgical needs (general surgery, urology, gynecology), oncology, psych/detox, and general medicine.
You may also be called to float to higher or lower acuity levels, including PCU/Stepdown and ICU (low-acuity holds within your skill set).
Scheduling
- 12-hour day shifts (7A–7P); 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance
- Some shifts assigned Just-In-Time (1–2 hours before start)
- 6–9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday rotation possible
- All time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment begins
- No more than 3 shifts may be missed in a 13-week contract
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg/Tele experience within the last 3 years
- Heparin drip titration required
- NIHSS stroke assessment competency
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- Active RN license required; BSN preferred but not required
Additional Details
- Nurse aides available on units
- Respiratory therapy support on-site
- Designated charge nurse per unit (typically does not carry a patient assignment)
- A 2-week notice is required to avoid back-out penalty
