OR Nurse – General Surgery & Specialty Procedures

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Day/evening rotating; 8- and 12-hour shifts

About the Role

The facility's OR manages high-acuity surgical patients across a broad range of specialties. You'll work in a fast-paced environment providing circulating and/or scrub support for general surgery, robotic procedures, orthopedic and neuro trauma, spine surgery, ENT, GYN, urology, bariatric surgery, major plastic reconstruction, organ procurement, and transplant cases (kidney and liver).

What You'll Do

  • Circulate and/or scrub across multiple surgical specialties
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment
  • Perform pre-operative assessments, verify surgical site and consent
  • Execute accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts
  • Monitor patient safety and status throughout procedures
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and the surgical team
  • Document intraoperative care in the medical record
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and post-op handoff

Requirements

  • Active RN license (state or compact)
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • 1+ years of general OR experience
  • Experience in neuro, ortho trauma, and kidney transplant preferred
  • Ability to function in circulating and/or scrub roles
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy

Schedule & Expectations

  • Day/evening rotation with up to 2 weekends per month (call or working shifts)
  • Short call once weekly (3a–7a or 5p–9p)
  • 30-minute on-call response time required
  • 72 guaranteed hours biweekly
  • Primarily based on main campus with possible float to other OR locations
  • Holidays eligible to work while under contract

Note: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility. Current or recent per diem staff at this facility are not eligible.
