Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Night Shift RN

Shift & Schedule

Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week

16-week contract

Every other weekend required

Maximum 7 days time off per contract; blackout dates apply (Spring Break: April 4–12)

No call required

Unit Overview

Join a neuro/stroke progressive care unit managing patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration. The unit serves adolescents through geriatric patients with respiratory, cardiac, and mixed medical diagnoses. You'll provide closer monitoring than med-surg but below full ICU acuity, with a patient ratio of 1:4 (typical assignment: 4 patients).

Core Responsibilities

  • Continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
  • Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips per protocols
  • Manage central lines, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and feeding tubes
  • Non-invasive airway management (BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula)
  • Administer blood products and manage heparin protocols
  • Assess and respond to rapid changes in patient condition
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Document accurately in the electronic health record

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license (Georgia or Compact)
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 1 year PCU/step-down experience (first-timers considered)
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and cardiac drip management
