Registered Nurse – Mother Baby / Postpartum
Location: Overland Park, KS
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Contract: 13 weeks
Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week
About the Role
The facility's postpartum unit provides comprehensive couplet care to mothers and newborns following vaginal or cesarean delivery. You'll manage 6–8 patients per shift, delivering assessments, education, and support during this critical transition period.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maternal and newborn assessments, including fundal checks, lochia evaluation, incision care, vital signs, and feeding support
- Monitor for postpartum and newborn complications (hemorrhage, infection, jaundice) and escalate as needed
- Provide breastfeeding education, infant care guidance, and emotional support
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
- Collaborate with OB physicians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and the interdisciplinary team
- Educate patients and families on discharge instructions and follow-up care
- Document assessments and interventions in the EMR
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (or compact license as applicable)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- 1+ years of mother baby/postpartum experience
- Experience with couplet care and postpartum recovery
- RNC-MNN certification preferred
Dress Code: Black scrub pants and Caribbean blue scrub top, vest, or jacket
Schedule Notes: Typically 2 harder-to-staff shifts weekly (Mon/Fri); 1 full weekend every 3 weeks, plus 1 additional weekend. Float within women's services (cross-training to pediatrics/NICU available). No on-call requirement.
