Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Med-Surg Telemetry RN for night shift coverage. This is an 18-week contract (13 weeks also considered), working three 12-hour shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.

Unit & Patient Population

You'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions. The unit focuses on continuous cardiac monitoring, post-operative recovery, and management of chronic and acute diagnoses including diabetes, cardiac, and respiratory conditions. You'll manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift, responding quickly to changes in rhythm or vital signs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; identify and respond to patient changes
  • Administer medications and cardiac drips per physician orders
  • Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
  • Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge
  • Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions
  • Document assessments and interventions accurately
  • Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio or compact state; must be in hand at submission)
  • Minimum 18 months permanent Med-Surg Telemetry experience required
  • BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association or Red Cross) – current and active
  • Recent (within 6 months) charting system experience required
  • Telemetry/ECG rhythm interpretation competency
  • One recent manager or supervisor reference from specialty (within past 12 months; no co-worker references)
  • Willing to work at least every other holiday
  • Pass ECG rhythm recognition and medication safety assessments during orientation
