Neuro ICU RN – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its Neuro ICU. This is a night shift position (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) on a 13-week contract.
About the Unit
The Neuro ICU is a comprehensive stroke center caring for high-acuity neurological patients including acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, post-craniotomy patients, carotid interventions, aneurysm repairs, seizure disorders, and myasthenia gravis. You'll manage patients with external ventricular drains, lumbar drains, ICP monitoring, and specialized neuro monitoring equipment. Average daily census is 11–12 patients.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of direct Neuro ICU experience (not general ICU)
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- EKG testing required prior to start
Key Skills & Experience
Ventilator management, IV starts, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central and arterial line care, continuous IV sedation, stroke management, EVD/lumbar drain care, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery nursing, and isolation precautions. Arterial line management is preferred.
Scheduling & Ratios
- 3 x 12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient ratios: 2:1 standard; may flex to 3:1 during high census
- Every-other-weekend requirement
- Float requirement within the facility
- No call requirement
- 24-hour orientation (2 days or 2 nights)
Additional Information
Navy blue and white scrubs. Up to 7 days of pre-approved RTO available (excluding holidays; must work 2 of 3 major holidays). No RTO during the first week or after contract signing. Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions available).
