Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse – Night Shift
Location: Dallas, TX
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Contract: 13 weeks
Start Date: September 15, 2026
About the Role
Join the facility's PCU as a night-shift registered nurse. You'll care for moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than general medical-surgical units but do not need ICU-level care. Many patients are transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration—your vigilance and quick response are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; identify and respond to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Assess and manage patients at risk of deterioration; collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Document assessments and interventions accurately
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Manage a patient load of 3–4 patients per shift
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or step-down unit experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Preferred
- BSN degree
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
Additional Details
- Royal blue scrubs
- Float to medical-surgical and PCU units as needed
- 4 shifts per schedule; call-in notice before 5:00 AM or 5:00 PM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
