Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse
Location: Asheville, NC
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour nights)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: August 20, 2026
Schedule: Every other weekend; holiday support required
About the Role
The facility's PCU provides care to patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but not full ICU-level care. You'll manage patients transitioning from intensive care or at risk of clinical deterioration, with a focus on telemetry monitoring, hemodynamic assessment, and early intervention.
Patient Ratios: 3–4 patients per nurse
Staffing: One charge nurse plus staff nurses per shift; no unit secretaries or PCTs available
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to changes in patient condition
- Provide IV medication administration, including select drips and critical care pharmacology
- Perform hemodynamic monitoring and manage patients on targeted temperature management and ventilators
- Assist providers with bedside procedures (chest tube insertion, intubations, etc.)
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on care planning
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions
- Ensure accurate documentation and participate in bedside shift report and charge nurse rounding
- Educate patients and families throughout the care process
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum 1+ year PCU/step-down experience
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and moderate-to-high-acuity patient management
- Comfort with hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and critical care medications
Preferred: BSN, PCCN certification

- Floating: Yes — you may be assigned to related units as needed
- Dress Code: Navy blue or white scrubs
