Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — RN

Location: Asheville, NC

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Start Date: August 31, 2026

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week

About the Role

The facility's Progressive Care Unit serves patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical floors but not ICU-level care. You'll manage moderate-acuity patients, many transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration, in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in condition
• Administer medications, including IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess and manage patients post-ICU transition or showing signs of decline
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary teams on individualized care plans
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per facility guidelines
• Maintain accurate EMR documentation and adhere to infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred
• 1+ years of PCU or step-down experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
