Labor & Delivery Nurse – 13-Week Contract
Position Overview
The facility seeks an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse for a 13-week contract beginning September 8, 2026. You'll provide direct care across the perinatal continuum—antepartum, labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal patients—in a Level 2 maternal/neonatal center.
Schedule
- Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (nights)
- Hours: Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hrs/week)
- Weekends: Every third weekend
- Holidays: You are required to work 1–2 of the upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day)
- No call required
Clinical Scope
You'll manage laboring patients, monitor maternal and fetal status, assess and interpret fetal heart rate patterns, and escalate concerns appropriately. You'll administer medications including labor induction/augmentation agents and provide epidural support per orders. Responsibilities include assisting with vaginal deliveries, providing circulating support for cesarean sections, managing high-risk OB conditions (preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress), and supporting immediate newborn resuscitation. You'll educate patients and families, collaborate with physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU teams, and document accurately in the EMR.
Requirements
- Active RN license (Iowa or compact)
- 24 months current L&D experience
- BLS, ACLS, NRP certification
- Intermediate or Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- STABLE certification
- Experience with glucose, magnesium, pitocin, and insulin administration
- Travel experience within the last 15 months
- Valid driver's license
