Labor & Delivery Nurse – 13-Week Contract

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week

About the Role

Join the facility's Labor & Delivery unit as an RN providing comprehensive care across the full perinatal spectrum. You'll work in an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) setting with , nursery, and NICU capabilities, managing low-risk and high-risk obstetric patients from admission through postpartum recovery.

Clinical Scope

  • Provide direct care to laboring patients; monitor maternal and fetal status using basic and intermediate fetal monitoring
  • Assess and interpret fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions; escalate concerns appropriately
  • Administer labor medications including induction/augmentation agents and epidural support per physician orders
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries and provide circulating support for cesarean sections (neonatal care responsibility only)
  • Manage high-risk obstetric conditions: preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress
  • Provide immediate newborn resuscitation and care; support nursery and NICU operations as needed
  • Educate patients and families on labor progression, pain management, and postpartum care
  • Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and pediatric hospitalists on care coordination

Requirements

  • Active RN license (state or compact)
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
  • BLS, ACLS, and NRP certification required
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year L&D experience
  • Experience with high-risk OB, fetal monitoring, and vaginal/cesarean deliveries

Occasional Call

While not part of a regular call rotation, you may occasionally be placed on call during low-census periods and expected to respond within one hour if called.
