Progressive Care Unit – Registered Nurse

Location: Wichita, KS

Shift: 4 x 12 (nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Schedule: Every other weekend

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours/week

About the Role

Join the facility's Progressive Care Unit as an RN providing skilled nursing care to moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration. You'll manage a patient load of 3–4 patients, focusing on continuous cardiac monitoring, vital sign assessment, and early recognition of changes in condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to acute changes
• Administer medications, including IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess patients recovering from critical illness and manage clinical deterioration
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on patient care plans
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in the EMR
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Kansas (or compact license as applicable)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• 1+ year of PCU or step-down nursing experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
• ADN minimum; BSN preferred

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse)
