Neuro Intensive Care Unit – ICU Nurse

Night Shift | 13-Week Contract

About the Role

The facility's Neuro Intensive Care Unit specializes in comprehensive stroke care and neurological critical illness. You'll provide direct nursing care to adults and geriatric patients with acute stroke, traumatic brain injury, post-neurosurgery recovery, seizure management, and other complex neurological conditions. This unit is part of a comprehensive stroke center and manages high-acuity patients requiring sophisticated monitoring and intervention.

Shift & Schedule

• Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (through February 2027)
• Staffing Ratio: 1:2 or 1:3, depending on acuity
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Float Requirement: Yes, to other ICUs and intermediate care units as needed

Core Responsibilities

• Manage ventilators, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, external ventricular drains (EVDs), and temperature management systems
• Titrate vasoactive and sedation drips; administer blood products and IV insulin protocols
• Interpret dysrhythmias, arterial blood gases, and hemodynamic changes
• Perform arterial and central line care; manage lumbar drains
• Collaborate with intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapy, and interdisciplinary teams
• Educate patients and families; maintain accurate documentation

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 2 years ICU/critical care experience (travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted)
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Proficiency with ventilator management, ICP monitoring, telemetry, and titratable drips
• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills

• 24-hour orientation provided
• Wear navy blue or white scrubs
• No block scheduling; scheduling per unit needs
• EKG testing required prior to start
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions available)
