Neuro/Stroke Nursing – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a registered nurse for its neuro/stroke unit serving adult patients. This is a night shift position (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) on a 13-week contract.
Unit Details
You'll work in a specialized neuro/stroke unit with telemetry capability. The unit is supported by patient care technicians, a healthcare unit coordinator, virtual sitter monitoring, and monitor technicians. Patient assignments typically range from 5–6 patients per shift. NIH stroke scale assessment is part of the clinical scope.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with acute and chronic conditions (cardiac, respiratory, diabetes, and post-operative care)
- Assess and monitor patients continuously, escalating changes in condition promptly
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
- Manage wound care and pain management for surgical patients
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge coordination
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- CMSRN (Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse) preferred
- Minimum 1+ years medical-surgical nursing experience
- Ability to manage diverse patient caseloads with varying acuity levels
Schedule
Night shift, 36 guaranteed hours per week. Up to 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period; holiday requirements based on department needs.
