Labor & Delivery RN – Night Shift

Position Overview

Join an LDRP unit as a Labor & Delivery RN on a 13-week contract. You'll work nights (18:45–07:15), three 12-hour shifts per week, providing comprehensive care across labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal populations.

About the Unit

The facility operates a low-risk obstetric program with approximately 80 births per month. The unit includes 8 LDRP rooms, 3 observation rooms, and 3 rooms. You'll manage patients throughout the full peripartum continuum and occasionally support off-service female surgical cases as census allows.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to laboring patients; monitor maternal and fetal status using continuous fetal monitoring and assessment
• Manage high-risk OB conditions (preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress) and recognize abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administer labor medications (Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives) and support epidural analgesia
• Assist with vaginal deliveries; circulate and recover cesarean sections
• Deliver immediate newborn stabilization, resuscitation support, and neonatal assessment
• Provide postpartum and couplet care; support breastfeeding and patient/family education
• Document accurately in the EMR and communicate with the OB/midwifery, anesthesia, and NICU teams

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 2 years L&D experience; first-time travelers accepted
• Must have both L&D and couplet care experience
• BLS, AWHONN Beginner/Intermediate, FHM, and NRP certifications
• Fluency with fetal monitoring (external and internal), IV therapy, phlebotomy, and medication administration

Preferred

• ACLS and AWHONN Advanced certification
• BSN

Schedule & Expectations

• Night shift: 18:45–07:15, three 12-hour shifts per week
• 8 weekend shifts per 13-week contract
• Occasional float within the facility
• Call may be required if census is low
• Blue scrubs provided

Orientation

• Hospital orientation week plus two 12-hour shifts on unit
• 24 hours total; must attend classes daily
