Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Registered Nurse
Location: Wichita, KS
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (nights), 4 x 12
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: September 27, 2026
Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week
About the Role
The facility's PCU is a step-down unit serving patients who require closer monitoring than medical-surgical floors but do not yet need ICU-level care. You'll manage moderate-acuity patients transitioning from the ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration, with a typical patient load of 3–4 patients per shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Assess and manage patients transitioning from critical care settings
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on care plans
- Respond to rapid response and code activations as needed
- Educate patients and families about their condition and recovery process
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- 1+ years of PCU or step-down experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- PCCN certification preferred
Schedule & Float
Every other weekend; no call. You may float to similar units on the same campus or other campuses within Wichita as needed.
