Registered Nurse First Assistant – Cardiac, Vascular & Thoracic Surgery

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join the operating room team. You will serve as first assistant during cardiac, vascular, endovascular, and thoracic surgical procedures, providing direct surgical support and ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

Shift & Schedule

Days: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Call: 1 day per week + 1 weekend every 4 weeks (subject to departmental needs)
Float: Within facility scope and to main OR as needed
Contract Duration: 15 weeks
Start Date: November 16, 2026 (privileging process required; approximately 120 days from contract signature)

Requirements

Active RN license (Georgia or Compact)
BSN and completion of accredited RNFA program
RNFA certification (CRNFA preferred)
BLS and ACLS certification
Minimum 2 years of OR/perioperative experience
Advanced surgical anatomy and technique knowledge
CNOR certification preferred
First-time travelers welcome

Clinical Scope

You'll assist in complex procedures including cardiac surgery (CABG, TAVR, valve replacement, heart transplant), vascular interventions (carotid endarterectomy, bypass grafting, AAA repair), endovascular procedures, and thoracic surgery (VATS, lobe resection, thoracotomy). Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiac, vascular, and thoracic diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

Provide hemostasis, tissue handling, suturing, and wound closure under surgeon direction
Retract, expose, and manipulate tissue for surgical visualization
Collaborate with surgical team to ensure procedural flow
Maintain strict sterile technique and safety protocols
Document surgical findings and patient data per facility standards

Important Note

Full compliance documentation must be completed within 48 hours of contract signature. All required modules are completed during orientation.
