Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You'll provide skilled nursing care to moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than general med-surg but do not need ICU-level care. This role is ideal for an RN who enjoys managing patients in transition from ICU or those at risk of clinical deterioration.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding to acute changes in patient condition
- Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per facility guidelines
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery expectations
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient response in the electronic medical record
- Support infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Mentor and collaborate with licensed and non-licensed staff
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Minimum 2 years acute care inpatient RN experience
- At least 1 year PCU or step-down unit experience
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Nursing diploma or Associate's degree in nursing
- Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
Schedule
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- 13-week contract
- Start date: August 30, 2026
