Labor & Delivery Nurse – 13-Week Contract
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse for a 13-week contract assignment. You'll work nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) in a fast-paced L&D unit managing labor, delivery, and high-risk obstetric cases. This is a full-time role with 36 guaranteed hours per week.
Unit Details
The L&D unit includes labor/delivery/recovery rooms, obstetric , operating rooms, recovery beds, antepartum rooms, and a Level III NICU. You'll care for low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, manage fetal monitoring and labor progression, and assist with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to laboring patients; monitor maternal and fetal status continuously
- Assess and interpret fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions; escalate concerns appropriately
- Administer labor support medications (magnesium, induction/augmentation agents) per physician orders
- Circulate for cesarean sections and assist with vaginal deliveries
- Manage high-acuity OB emergencies (preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress)
- Support immediate newborn care and resuscitation
- Educate patients and families; collaborate with physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU teams
- Document accurately in the medical record
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certification
- 1+ years of L&D experience
- Proficiency with fetal monitoring and high-risk OB care
Preferred
- BSN degree
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification
- OR circulating or scrub experience
Schedule & Floating
Nights (7p–7a); float within women's and children's services as needed. Hospital provides scrubs.
