Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Registered Nurse

Shift: Day, 12-hour (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Schedule: 3 days per week, 36 guaranteed hours
Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role
The facility is seeking an experienced RN for a hybrid progressive care unit serving medical and surgical patients with a focus on cardiac populations. You'll provide skilled nursing care to patients transitioning from higher acuity settings or at risk of clinical deterioration—managing the complex middle ground between general med-surg and ICU-level care.
Clinical Scope
Work with patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes (STEMI, NSTEMI), chest pain, and post-cardiac intervention cases. You'll manage telemetry monitoring, administer IV vasoactive drips (Milrinone, Dobutamine, pressors), and respond to rapid response and code situations. Patient load is typically 3–4 patients per shift.
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down experience
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- PCCN certification preferred
- Demonstrated experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Key Responsibilities
- Continuous cardiac rhythm and vital sign monitoring with prompt response to changes
- IV medication administration including cardiac drips
- Patient and family education on condition and recovery
- Collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
- Accurate documentation and adherence to infection control and fall prevention protocols
