Stepdown RN | Progressive Care Unit | Birmingham, AL
13-Week Contract | Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Start: September 21, 2026
The facility is seeking an experienced Stepdown RN to join a progressive care unit providing moderate-to-high acuity nursing care for patients who require closer monitoring than a standard med-surg floor but do not need full ICU-level intervention.
Clinical Scope
- Continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring and vital sign assessment with timely response to changes in patient condition
- Management of patients transitioning from the ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
- Administration of medications including select IV drips per physician orders
- Participation in rapid response and code interventions
- Collaboration with physicians, intensivists, and an interdisciplinary care team
- Patient and family education on condition, treatment plan, and recovery
Requirements
- Active RN license in Alabama (or applicable compact license)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- BLS and ACLS required
- PCCN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent stepdown or telemetry experience required
- Travel nursing experience required
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
This is a night shift position. Candidates should be comfortable with an independent practice style and adapting quickly to a new environment.
