Medical-Surgical Nurse – Transplant Nephrology Unit
Location: Kansas City, MO
Shift & Schedule:
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (nights)
- 4 x 12-hour shifts
- 3 weekend shifts per month
- 48 guaranteed hours weekly
- No on-call requirement
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
About the Role:
The facility's transplant nephrology unit cares for patients with acute and chronic kidney conditions, including post-kidney transplant patients. You'll provide direct nursing care to a diverse patient population with varying medical and surgical diagnoses, managing pre- and post-operative care, medication administration, and symptom management. While dialysis care occurs off the unit, you'll coordinate closely with nephrology and transplant teams.
A virtual nurse completes patient admissions, allowing you to focus on direct bedside care and patient assessments.
Your Responsibilities:
- Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition
- Manage medication administration and treatments per physician orders
- Coordinate pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
- Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and discharge planning
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on care coordination and discharge planning
- Document assessments and interventions accurately
- Follow infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift
Requirements:
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- ADN minimum; BSN preferred
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- 1+ years of medical-surgical nursing experience
- CMSRN certification preferred
- Ability to manage diverse patient caseloads
Unit Details:
- Royal blue scrubs (black pants acceptable)
- Unit secretary available during day shift; PCTs and unit educator on staff
