POSITION: Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN (Float Pool)
LOCATION: Rochester, NY
SHIFT & SCHEDULE:
Evening rotation, 12-hour shifts (3:00 PM – 3:00 AM or 3:00 AM – 3:00 PM). 36 hours per week. One weekend shift per week, or two weekend shifts every other weekend. At least one holiday must be worked during the contract. Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed. Must be flexible to accommodate facility needs.
CONTRACT DURATION: 16 weeks
ABOUT THE ROLE:
You'll join the medical-surgical telemetry float pool, rotating across multiple med-surg and telemetry units. This role requires flexibility and strong clinical judgment as you care for diverse adult populations with medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions at varying acuity levels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct nursing care to 4–6 patients per shift with continuous cardiac monitoring and vital sign assessment
- Interpret telemetry/EKG rhythms and respond to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications and manage cardiac drips per physician orders
- Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
- Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
- Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams on care planning
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation and ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols
REQUIREMENTS:
- Active RN license in NY (or compact license)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- 2+ years recent acute care experience in med-surg/telemetry (or 1+ year per facility policy)
- Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
