Medical-Surgical Telemetry Nurse – Night Shift Float Pool
Location: Rochester, NY
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
Schedule: 36 hours per week; 1 weekend shift per week or 2 weekend shifts every other weekend
Contract Duration: 16 weeks
License Required: Active NY RN license
Certifications Required: AHA BLS and ACLS
About the Role
You'll join the medical-surgical telemetry float pool, rotating across all med-surg tele units to support patient care during night shifts. This is a dynamic role that requires flexibility and strong clinical judgment.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care to adult patients with medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; respond to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications and treatments, including cardiac drips as ordered
- Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
- Care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory diagnoses)
- Coordinate care with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
- Document accurately in the electronic health record
- Manage 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)
- Follow infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- 2+ years recent acute medical-surgical/telemetry experience in a hospital setting
- 2+ years U.S. work experience required for non-U.S. candidates
- Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Must work at least 1 holiday during the contract
- Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed
