Medical-Surgical Telemetry Nurse – Float Pool
Location: Rochester, NY
Shift: 12-hour nights (7 PM–7 AM) with day/night rotation option
Contract: 16 weeks
Schedule: 36 hours per week; 1 weekend shift per week or 2 every other weekend. At least 1 holiday required during contract. Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed.
About the Role
You'll join the medical-surgical telemetry float pool, rotating across multiple med-surg and telemetry units. You'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions, including pre- and post-operative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to rhythm changes and patient condition deterioration
- Administer medications and cardiac drips per physician orders
- Manage wound care, pain management, and post-operative recovery
- Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory diagnoses)
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
- Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation
- Ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Typical patient load: 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)
Requirements
- Active RN license in New York (or compact license)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- 2+ years recent acute med-surg/telemetry experience in a hospital setting
- Telemetry and EKG interpretation competency
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- Flexibility to float to other units as needed
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
