Med Surg Tele Float Pool – Night Shift RN
Location: Rochester, NY
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour nights)
Contract: 16 weeks
Schedule: 36 hours per week; 1 weekend shift per week or 2 weekend shifts every other weekend. Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed. Must work at least 1 holiday during contract.
About the Role
You'll join a med/surg float pool, providing comprehensive care across multiple med/surg telemetry units. You'll manage adult patients with medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions—monitoring cardiac rhythms, managing medications and drips, coordinating pre- and post-operative care, and collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on discharge planning.
Your Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care to 4–6 patients per shift
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to patient condition changes
- Administer medications and cardiac drips per physician orders
- Manage wound care, pain management, and post-operative recovery
- Coordinate care for patients with diabetes, cardiac, and respiratory diagnoses
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and discharge instructions
- Document assessments and interventions accurately in the EMR
- Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Float to other units as needed based on facility staffing requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license in New York (or compact license)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years recent acute med/surg or telemetry experience in a hospital setting
- Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Flexibility to adjust schedule according to facility needs
