Medical-Surgical Telemetry Nurse – Night Shift Float Pool
Location: Rochester, NY
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
Schedule: 36 hours per week; 1 weekend shift per week or 2 weekend shifts every other weekend
Contract Duration: 16 weeks
Start Date: October 27, 2026
About the Role
Join the facility's med-surg telemetry float pool, rotating across multiple medical-surgical units during night hours. You'll provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a range of medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions, including pre- and post-operative cases.
Your Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications and cardiac drips per physician orders
- Manage wound care, pain management, and post-operative recovery
- Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
- Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on plan of care and discharge planning
- Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR
- Typical patient load: 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)
- Follow infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active NY RN license; AHA BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years recent acute med-surg/telemetry experience in a hospital setting
- Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency required
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Flexibility to float to other units and work at least 1 holiday during contract
- Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed
