Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role
Join the facility's Progressive Care Unit as a registered nurse caring for patients who require closer monitoring than general medical-surgical units but not intensive care. You'll work in a supportive team environment, managing moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to moderate-acuity patients using established protocols
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications, including IV drips, per physician orders
- Manage a typical patient load of 3–4 patients
- Assess and monitor patients for signs of deterioration; respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans
- Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of patient status and interventions
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and families
- Follow strict infection control and fall prevention protocols
- Participate in ongoing education to maintain clinical competency
- Willing to precept
Requirements
- Active RN license (compact license acceptable)
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- CRRT or PCCN certification preferred
- Minimum 1+ year of PCU/step-down nursing experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
