Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Location: Baltimore, MD

About the Role

Join the facility's Progressive Care Unit as a registered nurse caring for patients who require closer monitoring than general medical-surgical units but not intensive care. You'll work in a supportive team environment, managing moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to moderate-acuity patients using established protocols
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Administer medications, including IV drips, per physician orders
• Manage a typical patient load of 3–4 patients
• Assess and monitor patients for signs of deterioration; respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans
• Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of patient status and interventions
• Provide education and emotional support to patients and families
• Follow strict infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Participate in ongoing education to maintain clinical competency
• Willing to precept

Requirements

• Active RN license (compact license acceptable)
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• CRRT or PCCN certification preferred
• Minimum 1+ year of PCU/step-down nursing experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
