Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Night Shift

Position Summary

The facility is seeking a Progressive Care Nurse for a 13-week contract on the night shift (7:00 PM–7:00 AM). This role focuses on managing moderate-acuity patients requiring closer monitoring than general medical-surgical care but not ICU-level intervention.

Schedule & Assignment

• 3 × 12-hour night shifts per week (36 hours/week)
• Assigned location confirmed before each shift
• Float within specialty as needed between affiliated facilities within a 15-mile radius (primary assignment in Decatur)
• All time off must be requested upfront

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred
• Minimum 1+ years PCU or step-down experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond to condition changes
• Manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of deterioration
• Administer medications, including select IV drips
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team on patient care plans
• Educate patients and families
• Maintain accurate EMR documentation
• Manage a typical patient load of 3–4 patients per acuity and staffing guidelines
• Implement infection control and fall prevention protocols
