Medical-Surgical Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical RN for a 13-week contract on the night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). You'll work three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours) and provide comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical diagnoses.

Primary Duties

• Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition; escalate care as needed
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
• Manage pre- and post-operative care, including wound care and pain management
• Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
• Educate patients and families on condition, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
• Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams on plan of care and discharge planning
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient response accurately in the medical record
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Typical patient load: 4–6 patients per shift (varies by acuity)

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• CMSRN preferred
• Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg nursing experience

Schedule & Logistics

• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• All time off must be requested upfront
• You'll be assigned to your work location before each shift; float between facilities within your specialty as needed (primary assignment in Decatur area)
• Must reside outside the 50-mile radius; local travel not accepted
