Labor & Delivery Nurse – 13-Week Contract
Location: Asheville, NC
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (nights)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Hours: 36 guaranteed hours per week
Start Date: September 7, 2026
About the Role
The facility's Labor & Delivery unit is a busy, high-acuity obstetric service managing a diverse patient population including high-risk pregnancies, labor inductions, vaginal deliveries, and cesarean sections. You'll provide direct bedside care to laboring patients, monitor maternal and fetal status, and support immediate newborn resuscitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions; escalate concerns appropriately
- Assess maternal vital signs and labor progression; provide emotional support and patient education
- Administer labor medications (induction/augmentation agents, epidural support) per physician orders
- Assist with vaginal deliveries and provide circulating support for surgical deliveries
- Manage high-risk OB emergencies (preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress) with critical interventions
- Perform immediate newborn care and resuscitation as needed
- Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU team on patient care plans
- Document labor progress and interventions accurately in the EMR
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- 2+ years of Labor & Delivery experience required
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
- Demonstrated competency with high-risk OB, vaginal and C-section deliveries
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
Float Areas: May float to Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit, Mother-Baby Unit, or NICU as needed
Dress Code: Provided scrubs
