Medical-Surgical Oncology Nurse

Location: Atlanta, GA

Shift & Schedule:

  • 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • 13-week contract

About the Role:

Join the oncology team at the facility providing comprehensive nursing care to adult patients on a medical-surgical oncology unit. You'll manage patients across the treatment continuum—from pre- and post-operative care to chemotherapy administration and symptom management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer chemotherapy and antineoplastic agents per protocol, with close monitoring for adverse reactions
  • Initiate and maintain vascular access (peripheral IVs, PICC lines, implanted ports)
  • Assess and manage cancer- and treatment-related symptoms (nausea, pain, fatigue, immunosuppression)
  • Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care, including wound management and pain control
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, side effects, and self-care strategies
  • Document assessments and interventions accurately in the electronic health record
  • Follow safe hazardous drug handling protocols (OSHA/USP <800>)
  • Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, and the interdisciplinary care team

Requirements:

  • Active RN license (Georgia or compact license)
  • Minimum 18 months medical-surgical or oncology nursing experience
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification (ONS) required
  • Strong IV access and vascular assessment skills
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
