Medical-Surgical Oncology Nurse
Location: Atlanta, GA
Shift & Schedule:
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- 13-week contract
About the Role:
Join the oncology team at the facility providing comprehensive nursing care to adult patients on a medical-surgical oncology unit. You'll manage patients across the treatment continuum—from pre- and post-operative care to chemotherapy administration and symptom management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer chemotherapy and antineoplastic agents per protocol, with close monitoring for adverse reactions
- Initiate and maintain vascular access (peripheral IVs, PICC lines, implanted ports)
- Assess and manage cancer- and treatment-related symptoms (nausea, pain, fatigue, immunosuppression)
- Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care, including wound management and pain control
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, side effects, and self-care strategies
- Document assessments and interventions accurately in the electronic health record
- Follow safe hazardous drug handling protocols (OSHA/USP <800>)
- Collaborate with oncologists, surgeons, and the interdisciplinary care team
Requirements:
- Active RN license (Georgia or compact license)
- Minimum 18 months medical-surgical or oncology nursing experience
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification (ONS) required
- Strong IV access and vascular assessment skills
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
