Registered Nurse

RN – Medical Care Unit

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Location: West Burlington, IA

Hours: 36 per week (guaranteed)

About the Role

The facility's Medical Care Unit serves patients with moderate medical and surgical acuity—those transitioning from higher levels of care, awaiting placement, or requiring closer monitoring than general med-surg. You'll provide skilled nursing care using the full nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

Clinical Scope

• Monitor vital signs and cardiac rhythms continuously; respond to changes in patient condition
• Manage patients with telemetry needs, medical diagnoses, geriatric populations, and psychiatric issues
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Assess and manage patients at risk of clinical deterioration
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team on plan of care
• Patient load: typically 3–4 patients
• Coordinate infection control and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• 1+ years of medical/step-down nursing experience
• Telemetry monitoring experience
• Experience with EMR systems in a similar unit within the last 12 months

Schedule & Flexibility

• Weekend rotation required
• Float between Medical Care Unit and Inpatient Rehab as needed
• Occasional on-call availability during low-census periods (1-hour response time if called in)
