Operating Room RN – Ophthalmology & Specialty Surgery

Position Overview

The facility's OR is seeking an experienced Operating Room RN for its ambulatory surgery department. This is a 13-week contract position supporting a busy surgical program with approximately 22 cases daily across six operating suites.

Schedule & Call Requirements

• Day shift: Monday–Friday, 6:45 AM–3:15 PM (may extend until cases complete)
• Minimum 1 weekday call shift per week; up to every other weekend call
• Holiday call rotation required
• 30-minute call response time
• No self-scheduling

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BLS certification (AHA)
• 2+ years OR experience as an operating room nurse
• Required ophthalmology experience, including independent capability in cataract and corneal procedures
• Ability to scrub and circulate in ambulatory surgery settings
• Competency in both scrub and circulating roles

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN
• ACLS and CNOR certification

Clinical Scope

You'll manage cases including scleral buckles, vitrectomies, corneal transplants, cataracts, general surgery, minor spine stabilization, spinal cord stimulator placements, ENT, and dental procedures. Responsibilities include sterile field management, pre-op verification, instrument/sponge/needle counts, patient monitoring, equipment management, and accurate documentation.

• Hospital orientation followed by unit-specific training
