Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse
Location: Wichita, KS
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (nights), 4 x 12-hour shifts
Schedule: Every other weekend; no call
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Scrubs: Ceil blue
About the Role
Join the facility's Progressive Care Unit, where you'll care for moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration. This step-down unit bridges the gap between intensive and medical-surgical care, requiring strong assessment skills and the ability to identify subtle changes in patient condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond promptly to changes
- Manage 3–4 patients per shift, including medication administration and select IV drips
- Assess and care for patients at risk of deterioration; collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Maintain accurate EMR documentation and adhere to infection control and fall prevention protocols
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS and ACLS certification
- 1+ years of PCU or step-down experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) preferred
