CVOR
Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) RN — Des Moines, IA
4x10 Days | 26-Week Contract | Start: September 2025
This active CVOR department manages a high-volume surgical schedule across multiple service lines including cardiac/vascular, thoracic, neuro, robotics, urology, gynecology, general surgery, pediatrics, and transplants. The OR suite runs 12–14 rooms routinely and averages 35–50 cases per day with an expectation of turnovers under 20 minutes. Robotic-assisted cases and neuronavigation technology are a regular part of the caseload.
Schedule & Call
- Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–5:00 PM (4x10s with rotating day off)
- On-call: up to 2 overnight shifts per week; 1 weekend per month (Friday end-of-shift through Monday 6:30 AM)
- Holiday rotation required (1–2 summer holidays)
Orientation Structure
A structured CVOR orientation is provided: general OR acclimation, vascular circulating/scrubbing, then progressive cardiac case exposure with shadow call before independent cardiac call begins. Float across multiple campuses is required.
Scrubs: Provided by the facility
Requirements
- Minimum 24 months current OR/CVOR experience
- Strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases (80% cardiac caseload)
- General surgery circulating experience required
- Open heart scrub experience required
- Trauma Level II experience required; Level I highly preferred
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 15 months
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- BLS (AHA or ARC) required; CNOR preferred
