Travel RN – Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

La Jolla, CA | Days | 13-Week Contract

This CVICU position supports a high-acuity cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery patient population, including patients arriving directly from the OR following open-heart procedures. The unit manages complex cases involving multisystem organ dysfunction, hemodynamic instability, and advanced mechanical circulatory support.

Shift & Schedule

• Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 3×12-hour shifts
• Sunday–Saturday rotation
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle; at least one holiday shift required

Clinical Scope

• Post-cardiac surgery care (direct from OR and non-OR), CABG, valve repair/replacement, TAVR
• Management of IABP, LVAD/RVAD, ECMO, Impella, and epicardial pacing wires
• Arterial line, central line, CVP, and pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring
• Ventilator management, CVVHD/CRRT, continuous IV sedation and paralytic drips
• CVA/acute stroke management, ICP monitoring, and hypothermia protocols
• Titration of vasoactive and antiarrhythmic drips; dysrhythmia interpretation and management

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Active California RN license (Temp or Perm) required at submission
• BLS and ACLS (AHA only)
• NIHSS required
• TNCC, LVAD, and CRRT certifications preferred

Additional Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience; travel nursing experience required
• California license in hand at time of submission
• Float potential to other ICU, SDU, or Telemetry units across multiple campuses within the health system (excluding the ED)
• COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• No locals within 100-mile radius; candidates must not have been on assignment in San Diego for the past 9+ months
