Cardiac ICU (CVICU) Nurse – Night Shift
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced RN to join its cardiac intensive care unit on a night shift schedule. You'll provide direct care to critically ill cardiac and post-cardiothoracic surgery patients in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Shift & Schedule
- 3 nights per week, 12-hour shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Sunday–Saturday rotation
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle; at least one holiday required
- Patient ratios: 1:2 on nights
- 13-week contract
What You'll Do
- Monitor hemodynamic status and respond to acute changes in cardiac rhythm and stability
- Manage advanced life support equipment: ventilators, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, IABP, ECMO, and mechanical circulatory support devices
- Administer and titrate vasoactive and antiarrhythmic drips per protocol
- Provide immediate post-operative care for cardiac surgery patients, including chest tube and pacing wire management
- Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and interdisciplinary teams
- Perform rapid response and code interventions
- Educate patients and families throughout recovery
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license (CA)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA required)
- NIHSS certification
- Minimum 1+ year of CVICU or cardiac critical care experience
- Experience with post-cardiac surgery care and hemodynamic monitoring
- Travel experience: 1 year total; 6 months within the last year
Additional Information
- Float requirements: May float to other ICU levels or medical-surgical/telemetry units across the health system as needed
- Pre-placement modules required (8 hours, completed before start date)
- COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- 7-day maximum time-to-return-to-work
