Postpartum RN – 7 PM–7 AM
Location: Wichita, KS
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7 PM–7 AM)
Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week; flexible scheduling
About the Unit
The facility's postpartum unit cares for high-risk mothers and newborns in a busy, collaborative environment. You'll provide couplet care—managing both maternal recovery and newborn assessments following vaginal or cesarean delivery. The unit is staffed by a close-knit team of RNs and PCTs who prioritize teamwork and patient safety. Typical patient ratios are 3–4 couplets per RN.
Your Responsibilities
- Assess maternal recovery: fundal checks, lochia, incision/perineal care, vital signs, and hypertension management
- Perform newborn assessments, vital signs, feeding support, and screening tests
- Monitor for postpartum and newborn complications (hemorrhage, infection, jaundice); escalate as needed
- Provide breastfeeding education and support
- Assist with circumcisions and other routine postpartum procedures
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
- Document assessments and interventions in the EMR
- Educate patients and families on discharge care and follow-up
Requirements
- Active RN license (or compact license as applicable)
- BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of acute-care postpartum hospital experience
- Experience with couplet care and postpartum recovery
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- RNC-MNN certification preferred
