Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) — Travel RN

Asheville, NC | Nights | 13-Week Contract

This travel nursing opportunity is in a PICU/Pediatric Stepdown unit serving a high-acuity pediatric population in western North Carolina. The unit manages complex patients requiring intensive monitoring and advanced interventions in a fast-paced pediatric environment.

Shift & Schedule

  • Nights: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • Must work 3 weekends per 6-week schedule

Patient Population & Procedures

The unit cares for critically ill pediatric patients across PICU and stepdown acuity levels. Procedures performed include:

  • IV starts and catheterizations
  • Central line dressing changes
  • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • ICP monitoring
  • Ventilator management
  • Trach care
  • Tube feeding and placement
  • Holding for lumbar punctures

Staffing

  • PICU ratio: 1 RN to 1–2 patients
  • Stepdown ratio: 1 RN to 2–3 patients
  • HUC support available 9 AM–9 PM; tech shared with PICU

Float Requirements

Travelers may be asked to float to Pediatrics and NICU.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Minimum 1 year of PICU experience
  • BLS and PALS (American Heart Association) required

Dress Code

All navy, all white, or navy pants with white tops.
