Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) — Travel RN
Asheville, NC | Nights | 13-Week Contract
This travel nursing opportunity is in a PICU/Pediatric Stepdown unit serving a high-acuity pediatric population in western North Carolina. The unit manages complex patients requiring intensive monitoring and advanced interventions in a fast-paced pediatric environment.
Shift & Schedule
- Nights: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Must work 3 weekends per 6-week schedule
Patient Population & Procedures
The unit cares for critically ill pediatric patients across PICU and stepdown acuity levels. Procedures performed include:
- IV starts and catheterizations
- Central line dressing changes
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- ICP monitoring
- Ventilator management
- Trach care
- Tube feeding and placement
- Holding for lumbar punctures
Staffing
- PICU ratio: 1 RN to 1–2 patients
- Stepdown ratio: 1 RN to 2–3 patients
- HUC support available 9 AM–9 PM; tech shared with PICU
Float Requirements
Travelers may be asked to float to Pediatrics and NICU.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- Minimum 1 year of PICU experience
- BLS and PALS (American Heart Association) required
Dress Code
All navy, all white, or navy pants with white tops.
