Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit – RN

About the Unit

The cardiovascular progressive care unit specializes in post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, including those recovering from open-heart procedures (CABG, valve replacements, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery, and vascular repairs (AAA, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass). You'll also care for overflow medical cardiology patients with heart failure, chest pain, sepsis, arrhythmias, and other acute cardiac conditions.

What You'll Do

• Provide step-down level care to patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of deterioration
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to clinical changes
• Manage epidural catheters, chest tubes, and tube feedings
• Administer cardiac drips (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, amiodarone, heparin, nitroglycerin, and others) per protocol
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team on patient care plans
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families; maintain accurate EMR documentation
• Patient ratio: 1:5 RN-to-patient

Required

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Minimum 1+ year step-down or PCU experience
• Telemetry monitoring experience
• BSN or ADN

Preferred

• PCCN certification
• Prior cardiac surgery or vascular surgery population experience
• CVICU experience

Additional Information

• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
• No on-call required
• Dress code: All navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
• Float to other step-down or med-surg units as needed
