Progressive Care Unit – Cardiac Step-Down | Night Shift

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract: 13 weeks

About the Unit

The facility's cardiac step-down unit provides intermediate-level care for patients transitioning from intensive care or at risk of clinical deterioration. You'll manage patients with congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, pulmonary hypertension, valvular disease, and those recovering from cardiac procedures (catheterization, stent placement, pacemaker/ICD insertion, ablation). The unit uses continuous telemetry monitoring and a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4 (1:5 during stretch staffing).

What You'll Do

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to moderate-acuity cardiac patients
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond to patient changes and deterioration
  • Administer titratable cardiac medications (nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin drips, diuretics)
  • Perform bedside cardioversion as needed
  • Collaborate with physicians and the care team on patient management
  • Respond to rapid response and code interventions
  • Educate patients and families on their condition and recovery
  • Document assessments and interventions accurately in the EMR

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (state or compact)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Minimum 1+ years of progressive care or step-down experience
  • Proficiency with telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with cardiac IV medications

Preferred

  • PCCN certification
  • Experience with prostacyclins
  • Relief charge nurse experience
  • BSN

Schedule & Float

  • Every other weekend
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week
  • Float to medical-surgical units, other step-down units, COVID unit, and ER holding as needed

Dress Code: All white or all navy; white top with navy pants acceptable
