Progressive Care Unit – Cardiac Nursing
Position Overview
Join a cardiac progressive care unit as a staff nurse working nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). This 13-week contract offers the opportunity to care for moderate-to-high-acuity cardiac patients in a structured stepdown environment.
About the Unit
The unit specializes in cardiac patients requiring close monitoring and intervention. You'll care for patients with congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, chest pain, arrhythmias, pulmonary hypertension, valvular disease, endocarditis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and those recovering from cardiac catheterization, stent placement, pacemaker insertion, ICD implantation, and ablation procedures. Typical patient load is 4 patients per assignment, with the ability to stretch to 5 during high census. Bedside cardioversion and continuous telemetry monitoring are standard.
Requirements
- Active RN license (BSN preferred; ADN accepted)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year PCU/stepdown experience
- Telemetry monitoring experience
- Proficiency with titratable cardiac IV medications (nitroglycerine, Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin drips, heparin, Lasix/Bumex)
- PCCN certification preferred
- Prostacyclin experience a plus
Floating & Schedule
- Every other weekend
- Float pool includes medical-surgical units, stepdown units, and ER holding
- Guaranteed 36 hours weekly
Dress Code
All white, all navy, or navy pants with white top
